Mosquito control Inspectors  $18.00/ hour 

  • Schedule: Full time (7:30 am to 3:30 pm )
  • Reporting Location: Houston, TX 77021
  • Under the supervision of the Inspection Supervisor, the Mosquito Control Inspector conducts field inspections, treats for mosquito larvae and adults, and provides public education in the assigned area of operation; provides maintenance and service to vehicles and equipment.
  • Inspects for mosquito public health pest problems specifically larval development sites and mosquito adult populations with in Harris County and also but not limited to the ship channel and bordering wetlands and waterways, including dredge spoil areas, storm sewers, catch basins, ditches etc.
  • Sample/collect adult and larval populations in the field and/or lab to identify them as appropriate.
  • Deploys mosquito light traps, identifies and counts adult mosquitoes collected.
  • Performs landing rates in residential areas and in those areas adjacent to adult emergence sites in order to determine adult migration patterns and subsequent treatment strategies.

Education Requirements:

  •  Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

Licenses/Certifications Required:

  •  Must acquire a Texas Certified Pesticide Applicator’s License within one year of employment.
  • You will be driving a Harris county vehicle. You must have a valid TX Driver license in order to apply.
  • Must have 2-3 years of pest control experience

General Parks Landscapers $12/hr

  • Monday-Friday 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Perform a variety of routine tasks related to green space management operations. Including but not limited to litter collection, mowing, trimming, pruning, and planting operate and maintain various hand and power tools.
  • ​Lawn mower and weed eater.
  • No tennis shoes- boot-type shoe is preferred. No short pants.
  • Work outdoors, bending, stooping, lifting and a lot of walking.

Veterinary Technician $14/hour

  • Location Houston 77076
  • Full-time, 40+ hours per week. Rotating weekends: Saturday/Sunday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. May work some holidays.
  • Participates in clinical and animal care activities that support the HCPHES VPH pet adoption program. Implements strategies to increase the "Leave Alive" rate as assigned.
  • High school diploma or GED is required. Completion of  an accredited veterinary technician, bachelor's, associate's degree program in related field is highly desirable.
  • Registered Veterinary Technicians must have at least 2 years of directly related experience. If not RVT, must have at least 4 years of directly related experience.

Kennel Technician $13/hour (1 positions available) 

  •  Location Houston 77076
  • Full-time, Monday-Friday 7:30a-6:30p. Rotating weekends: Saturday/Sunday 7:00a - 5:00p, and some holidays.
  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing animal holding areas as required. Counsel citizens interested in pet adoptions or searching for lost pets. Assist in photographing animals, data entry of animal and citizen information.
  • Will witness and assist with humane euthanasia of animals, but will not be performing euthanasia.

Insecticide Resistance Technician $18.00 /hour

  • Schedule: Full time (7:30 am to 3:30 pm ) 
  • Reporting Location: Houston, TX 77021
  • The Test and Evaluation Grant Technician’s duties are to fulfill the needs of the Grant: setting/retrieving egg collections of Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus mosquitoes for insectary rearing and testing.
  • Maintaining susceptible colonies of same species in permanent insectary; participate in laboratory and field insecticide tests; clean reusable equipment; make disposable equipment.
  • Participate in site surveys.
  • Set adult traps & sort species as needed.
  • Record and enter data.
  • Work directly under supervision of the Test and Evaluation Entomologist

  • Maintains susceptible colonies year round.
  • Rears County area mosquitoes from field collections.
  • Assists the conduct of field tests.
  •  Sorts and identifies mosquito species.

  •  Use pesticides according to Federal, State and local regulations and guidelines.


  • Need knowledge of biology, ecology and some mechanical aptitude.
  • Bachelor degree in a science field (ex. Entomology, Biology, Chemistry).
  • Toxicology lab experience in mosquito bioassays and making chemical dilutions.
  • Collection and rearing of mosquitoes.
