Hours: 40 hours per week, as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:     
-High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
-One year of road and bridge experience preferred
-Valid Texas Driver’s License is required
Pay Rate: $14.00 - $16.00 ph.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Ability to work well with public and staff members
-Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, reach, climb ladders, stairs, drive and flag traffic for an extended period of time for special events
-Adequate physical stamina and ability to lift 50+ lbs.
-Ability to work in inclement weather and confined areas
-Ability to rake, shovel, dig, cut, clear, and or hand clear an area
-Ability to work around heavy equipment
-Ability to maintain and operate light equipment (chainsaws, pole saws, mowers, mechanical cutters, drive a typical pickup-automatic/standard)
-Perform daily maintenance of assigned equipment
-Ability to handle materials (mulch, dirt, gravel, cleaners, asphalt, oils, etc.)
-Pick up trash and litter, empty trash cans, maintain & clean restrooms and various park buildings
-Prepare parks and pavilions for events (set up, clean & take down chairs & tables)
-Possibly participate in Inmate and Community Service Program (monitoring work details as assigned)
-Perform all jobs in a safe and timely manner
-Arrive to work on time
-Perform other duties as assigned

 Kennel Technician needed for Harris County! 1- opening

SCHEDULE:Monday – Saturday ( Day Shift ) 
PAY RATE:$13.00 P/H
LOCATION:North Houston

​Must have a High school diploma or GED.

PER OUR CLIENT  ( CANDIDATES WITH CRIMINAL HISTORY WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS OPENING ) 
Under the supervision of the Kennel Supervisor, the Animal Technician is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing animal holding areas as required. Counsel citizens interested in pet adoptions or searching for lost pets. Assist in photographing animals. Data entry of animal and citizen information. Participates in various educational programs. This position will witness and assist with humane euthanasia of animals, however contract employees do not perform euthanasia. 
ANIMAL CARE
1. Responsible for the daily feeding and watering of all animals in the shelter. All animals in the shelter are fed and given water twice a day and as needed.
2. Humanely transports animals from unloading area and reception area to assigned pens. Assist animal control officers with unloading their trucks as well as intaking animals from the front

MECHANIC II - $19.84 - $22.81 (If you have a CDL, you will get the $22.81 rate)

SCHEDULE: FULL TIME    Monday – Friday 6:30 A.M. – 2:30 P.M. with overtime authorized

Maintains and repairs heavy and light mechanical equipment, parts and components Performs minor overhauls, front-end alignments, and minor vehicle component repairs and maintenance. Performs heavy duty diesel repairs.  Performs major engine repairs. Keeps track of repair time and reports time on work orders Stays current on new technology Rebuilds minor vehicle components Repairs electrical and air conditioning systems Uses hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels and technical manuals. Must furnish own hand tools.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Requires up to 18 months of vocational education/training in automotive maintenance or repair.
  • Two years of automotive maintenance and repair experience are required.
  • Requires a valid Texas driver's license or a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Information Booth Attendant needed for Harris County  $13.00/hr - 1 opening

Summary:
Under the Supervision of the Office Manager, the Information Booth Attendant (IBA) is responsible for monitoring visitors to shelter, customer service, educating the public about rabies epidemiology, the leash law and responsible pet ownership.

Working hours:  Monday – Friday 10:30 a – 6:30 p and Sat & Sun 8:30 a – 4:30 pm
Must have a High school diploma or GED.

  • No criminal History is allowed.
  • Job Duties 
  • Provides information regarding Harris County leash laws, rabies, animal safety and responsible pet ownership.
  • Provides complete/accurate information to visitors requesting routine zoonotic disease information and refers public to appropriate agency when necessary.
  • Has basic knowledge concerning rabies in domestic and wild animals.
  • Greets citizens in a processional and courteous manner.
  • Must be able to answer basic questions regarding Harris County VPH services.
  • Training and education on rabies, the leash law and responsible pet ownership will be provided. ​

SIDELOADER OPERATOR - $15.06 per hour

SCHEDULE:  FULL TIME    Monday – Friday 6:30 A.M. – 3:30 P.M. with overtime authorized

Individual will perform physical labor in the collection of household recyclables and refuse from city curbs. Answer citizens' questions regarding proper contents, packing weight, container types, pick-up times and placement of containers. The Sideloader Operator primary responsibilities will be on the back of the truck. Will operate the vehicle on occasion while on the route and while emptying and cleaning the truck at the service center. 

Responsibilities will include; operating the hydraulic controls on the truck and performing pre and post trip maintenance inspections. This position requires mandatory overtime on scheduled workdays, weekends, and holidays and in response to disaster recovery efforts.


SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must have 6 months verifiable driving experience
  • MUST HAVE A VALID CLASS A OR B TEXAS COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE
  • MUST HAVE NO VIOLATIONS WITHIN THE LAST 3 YEARS

Part time Pet Surrender Counselor Needed for Harris County! 1- opening

SCHEDULE: Part time  ( Day Shift ) 
PAY RATE: $25.00 P/H
LOCATION: North Houston
Work Schedule: This is a part-time position (20 hrs/wk), off days will be Wednesdays and Sundays. Work hours will be 1:00p-5:00p for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and Saturday.

Harris County Animal Shelter (HCAS) is implementing a Pet Retention & Case Management Program to help pet owners keep animals in their homes, preventing surrender to the shelter.

As a key part of this program, the Pet Surrender Prevention Counselor will serve as an on-site case manager at the shelter and is primarily responsible for providing information about Harris County Animal Shelter (HCAS) surrender policy, pet care, and available resources, as well as performing intake of animals, lost pet assistance and pet adoptions.

Required:

•Master's Degree in Social Work or related field with license preferred or eligibility to acquire licensure

•Two years of post-Masters social work experience
•Must have strong interpersonal and crisis intervention skills with an emphasis on short term assessment and crisis management, conflict resolution and an understanding of the human-animal bond.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Perform job duties in a positive, helpful manner. Provide exceptional customer service and represent HCAS in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff.
· Meet one-on-one with individuals seeking to surrender their animals to complete a needs assessment to determine the challenges preventing owners from retaining pets safely in their homes.
· Assist the public in all aspects of shelter programs and share information to enhance the public’s knowledge of animal welfare as well as their knowledge of HCAS mission, programs and resources.
· Coordinate and supervise social work interns.
· Schedule intake appointments.
